ABOUT THE AUTHOR


Laura D. Bellmay is a retired fundraising and 



development consultant. She began writing for the love 


of the craft after her first cancer diagnosis in 1996. She 


won the “Best of Letters to The Editor” from The 



Hartford Courant in 1991. The Collinsville Axe Factory 


Players hosted a reading of “Holy Communion”, her 


essay about growing up Catholic in 1950s “baby



boomer” housing in Foxon, Connecticut. Laura was featured in a series of articles in The Uxbridge 


Times in 2006 and her essay, “Into the Garden” a short story about her coming to terms with her 


mastectomy after a recurrence of breast cancer, was published in the 2011, Winter Issue of Barefoot 



Review.


Laura shared her story “Tracks,” during an Open Mic Night in Collinsville, March 2015 and in April 2015 


her story, “A Call from the Edge” was published in the “Fragile Ongoing” Edition of Dark Matter: 



Women: Witnessing, Issue #2. She lives in Canton, Connecticut on a stretch of The Farmington River 


protected as “wild and scenic.” She has learned with gratitude how to live in harmony with breast 


cancer.
